Late night park use worries Ann Street neighbors

Noise, bad language, and concerns about possible drug use moved several Ann Street Park neighbors on Monday to press the Milford Borough Council to take some action. Saying there have been problems at the park with late night use, park neighbor and borough planning commission chair Peter Rushton asked who is responsible for enforcing the darkness to dawn closure. “You’re saying the police are not enforcing it,” Councilman James Price stated. Another Ann Street neighbor agreed that a police presence there is important. He complained of “a lot of teenagers” hanging out in the park past midnight. He said they were loud and used bad language. “I would have called the police, but I couldn’t find the telephone number.” Neighbor Charles Quilici recalled the police having appeared by the park playground equipment one night, prompting youths there to leave. “Next morning, there was a kid picking up stuff under the forsythia bushes, and I don’t think he was looking for dimes.” Council President Matt Osterberg said residents’ concerns would be passed on to borough police and officers would be asked to make occasional nighttime foot patrols. “Nobody has any business in (the park) after dark,” Osterberg agreed.
