Milford — In a June 3 statement the Pike County Public Library announced the Milford Borough Council’s unanimous vote to accept the recommendation of the Milford Architectural Review Board for approval of the conceptual design for the Library’s new headquarters and thanked those involved. Library Board Member Rebecca Lindsey said, “We are extremely grateful to our architect, Fred Schwartz, the Borough’s architectural consultant, Peter Benton, and the ARB and Borough Council for helping us to get to this point. The new library headquarters will be a tremendous asset to our county library system, as well as to our town, and in particular, our downtown. This is a facility that we have long needed as the first step in expanding county-wide library services; thanks to this decision, we now have confidence that it will become a reality very soon.” Borough Council Member Ed Raarup agreed. “This was a thorough process that involved many members of the community working together and compromising to achieve a common goal. I am delighted that the Council was unanimous in agreeing that this important project is ready to move forward and I look forward to its completion.” The library will return to the review board for separate approval of its sign, as well as of any changes to the design that may be made as the remaining permits are obtained; however, the borough council’s June 1 vote is that the design submitted to the review board in April complies with Milford’s Historic District Ordinance. The plans along with the libary’s application to the ARB may be found on the libary Web site at www.pcpl.org .
