Lightning knocks out power

With some assistance from his granddaughter, Ruthie Redner, Milford Borough equipment operator Don Potter tends the portable generator powering the traffic light in Milford during Saturday evening’s power outage. About 2,500 residents lost power Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. when lightning struck a utility pole on US Route 6/209 near McDonalds, splitting the pole in half. Orange and Rockland utility crews worked to restore power by digging out the old pole, planting a new one, and running new lines. A spokesman for the utility said all customers were back online by 10:30 p.m.(photos by David Hulse)
