Local girl earns Gold Award: highest Girl Scout recognition

HARRISBURG — Rachel Scarpa of Milford has received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, a Senior (ages 14 to 17) Girl Scout has demonstrated her special commitment to excellence in herself, her community and her future. Recipients must complete several activities covering career exploration, leadership skills, community service and specialized interest projects, followed by a comprehensive project selected and designed by the recipient based on her skills and interests. For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Scarpa remodeled of the Good Shepherd Food Pantry in Milford. The goal of the project was to make people who go to the food pantry feel better. The remodel also included a mural painted by Scarpa. Scarpa earned the Girl Scout Gold Award under the leadership of Mary Wins. As a Girl Scout, Scarpa has also earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award as well as several governing boards. Scarpa, daughter of Donna and George Menar, is a graduate of Delaware Valley High School. Scarpa currently attends Marywood University where she is majoring in art therapy.
