— The new Wayne County Adult Day Services Center opened Friday at the Drake Senior Center in Bingham Park in Hawley.
The center will serve older adults with dementia-related conditions or adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Its core services include personal care, nursing services, therapeutic activities, social services, nutritional and therapeutic diets, and emergency care, giving family caregivers peace of mind and a much-needed respite.
The Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging, Teresa Osborne, joined the Wayne County Commissioners, the Wayne and Pike Area Agencies on Aging, and other dignitaries on for the grand opening.
“The opening of the Wayne County Adult Day Services Center is vital to improving the lives of older Pennsylvanians and their caregivers in this largely rural area,” Osborne said.
A local support group was the first to say the center was needed, which was later validated by a community needs survey.
The center is being operated by Telespond Senior Services. Telespond Board member Warren Watkins said the non-profit company is starting out small at the Hawley facility, but expects the program to grow as they have at the Lackawanna County facilities.
