Boy Scout turns filmmaker for merit badge

MILFORD — Scoutmaster Carol Phillips' back field, four miles outside of Milford, recently became the setting of a movie set in the French city of Metz during World War II.
Ronald Syme of Troop #71 handled it all when working toward his Boy Scout movie merit badge — directing, editing, and performing too.
The cast includes other members of his troop, including Anthony Bailey. Matthew Daily, Mark DeBlock, Terrance Ring, and Andrew Phillips. Ronald and his fellow actors spent nearly two years collecting gear and creating props. During the filming, the scouts cooked all their own food and lived outside, on the land.
The story centers around an I&R (Intelligence and Reconnaissance) platoon. It will premiere at a Boy Scout meeting in September or October.
Mark did the filming, and Ronald is editing the film. He said each scout will receive a copy, and that the may also be posted on YouTube.com.
