Don't worry, it's natural

There's been an outbreak of algae growth in the river this summer. But it's nothing to worry about, said Don Hamilton, Chief of Resource Management for the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, and happens every few years or so. "This year the combination of low water and warm weather has resulted in a lot of algae in the river, and it will change when the weather gets colder," he said. The algae mostly lies on the bottom of the river bed, forming long floating vegetation. But it can also seem to float on the surface. Hamilton has received many reports from citizens worried about the algae, but no toxicity of any kind has been reported, he said. (By Anya Tikka)
