Food for Fines returns to the library

MILFORD — All is forgiven — if you bring food.
Food for Fines is back at the Pike County Public Library, which will accept donations of nonperishable food items from Friday, Dec. 2, to Saturday, Dec. 17, in exchange for reducing fines on library card accounts.
Library patrons will be able to clear or reduce their fines during this two week period only. For every nonperishable item they donate, 50 cents will be removed from their account, up to $10.
The food will be donated to Safe Haven of Pike County, a domestic violence service that helps people dealing with domestic abuse.
This yearly program is meant to replenish food stores for a local charity after the Thanksgiving holiday. Some acceptable donations include canned and boxed meals, baby food, peanut butter, pasta, rice, cereal, and canned meats and vegetables. The library cannot accept homemade, perishable, open or unlabeled items, damaged or rusty cans, beverages, or expired items.
Donations can only be used to reduce fines only, not other library charges. If you do not have fines, the library will still accept your donation.
