Frein trial will be in Pike, but jury will come from outside county

MILFORD — Accused trooper killer Eric Frein will face his trial in Pike County, despite a motion by his attorney, Michael E. Weinstein, to move it elsewhere.
But the jury to try Frein will come from another county.
“I don’t think happy would describe my emotions, but I think it’s appropriate," Weinstein said of the jury stipulation.
He sought a change of venue because he believed Frein would not be able to get a fair trial in Pike County, as a result of intense media coverage.
Weinstein said the judge has not yet signed the stipulation on the change of venue to venire, but an agreement had been reached. A venire is the list from which jurors may be selected.
“The stipulation is an agreement between the Commonwealth and defense which the judge has not yet signed an order, which we expect he will, to change venire instead of venue," he said. "I think it’s an appropriate resolution.”
Frein, 33, of Canadensis is accused of fatally shooting State Trooper Cpl. Bryon Dickson and seriously wounding Trooper Alex Douglass in an ambush at the Blooming Grove State Police Barracks in September 2014. He will be tried for first-degree murder, murder of a law enforcement officer, and terrorism, among other charges.
Frein has pleaded not guilty.
He eluded authorities for weeks and was captured after an intense manhunt involving search teams from around the country.
Pike County District Attorney Raymond Tonkin objected to the change of venue. He has been seeking the death penalty for Frein since his arrest in 2014.
