George Washington visited the Columns for a special fundraiser benefiting the Pike County Historical Society and Museum and GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center, on March 29.

The audience watched a presentation entitled, “All the President’s Horses” during which tales of White House horses were shared. President Washington added stories about his favorite horses, Old Blueskin and Nelson.

“Horses d'oeuvres” and other refreshments were served and visitors participated in a horse race game to win donated prizes. The following local businesses donated items: Balch’s Seafood Restaurant, Myer Florist, Walmart Majestic Theatre, Jake’s Way Back Burgers, Super Cuts, Mc Donald’s, Staples and Roma Pizza.

After the presentation, long time GAIT volunteer Phyllis Dunay was honored with a special plaque for 20 years of dedicated and faithful service. With tear-filled eyes Phyllis reminded all present why it is so important to support GAIT TRC who provides equine therapeutic activites including horseback riding to children and adults with special needs.

GAIT TRC extends a big thank you to the Pike County Historical Society and Museum for co-hosting the event and looks forward to working with them again in the future.
