As the need for decent affordable housing continues to grow in Pike County, the local Habitat for Humanity is seeking donations of land to help people in need.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry. Its vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

“Our mission is seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope,” says a statement from the Pike County chapter. “Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.”

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner/partner families. These houses are then sold to partner families at no profit with an affordable, 30-year, no-interest mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity of Pike County is presently building its 32nd home in the county.

Anyone interested in donating land should call 570-828-1623 or email hfhpc@ptd.net. Taxes and dues must be current. Habitat does not appraise land.
