The director of The Pike County Historical Society and Museum has planned a special trip to Erie Canal Country complete with a canal boat ride, historical presentations, mules, locks food and fun. Proceeds will go toward the upkeep and maintenance of the society's 1904 building.

The trip will be an overnight excursion leaving the Columns Museum on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. The destination is Baldwinsville, NY., where participants will stay at the Red Mill Inn, a lodge in a restored grain mill, which is situated between Lock No. 24 of the Erie Canal and the Seneca River.

Upon arrival, attendees will have the afternoon to themselves to explore the town.

At 6 p.m., there will be a canal-themed reception and a lecture on the canal at the inn, complete with delicious snacks and cash bar. There will be mule races and historical fun. Canal attire is encouraged.

There is a complimentary light breakfast in the morning, followed by time at the Camillus Erie Canal Park. Here, participants will board a canal boat for a tour, which includes a trip through the locks and guided tour. There is a museum, canal store and a visit to the famed Clinton's Ditch.

Attendees will depart Camillus at 1 p.m. and stop at Number 5 Steak House for a late lunch/early dinner before returning home to Milford at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5
