Honesdale's shops plan holiday open houses

— Historic Honesdale offers up its famous holiday hospitality on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25 and 26, with many stores and businesses hosting open houses filled with seasonal warmth.
Sponsored by The Dime Bank, Honesdale for the Holidays offers the following highlights:
Music — The Fred Miller Pavilion on Honesdale’s historic Main Street will be alive with holiday music with DJ Tom Emanski on Friday from noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sponsors: RE/MAX WAYNE and Meagher Insurance Agency.
Santa Parade — The parade kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, starting at Main and Fourth Streets and ending at Central Park, where the Star on Irving Cliff and the Christmas tree will be lit, and children will visit with Santa. Sponsor: 95.3 DNH & Classic Hits 105.3
Craft vendors — Vendors, many with special treats for children, will dot Main Street near the pavilion on Saturday. Victorian-clad strollers and the Honesdale High School Chamber Choir will offer carols as they stroll down on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Shoppers' trolley — The Greater Honesdale Partnership will offer a free holiday shopper’s trolley from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, allowing shoppers and visitors to leave their car parked in one location throughout the day while offering a tour of the downtown area. Sponsors: Beck, Gogolski, Poska & Co., Dirlam Bros. Lumber Co., and Grimm Construction.
Railroad club — Take a step back into time with the Stourbridge Model Railroad Club, which will host an open house on Saturday in Grace Episcopal Parish Hall, 827 Church St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A large HO gauge railroad display depicts the mythical town of Wayne.
Railroad history — The newly renovated and expanded Wayne County Historical Society Museum, 810 Main St., features a full-scale replica of the famous Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on a track in America. It's is open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The museum's open house on Saturday begins at 4 p.m.
Santa Express — The Stourbridge Line 's Santa Express rides at noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Visit thestourbridgeline.net or call 570-470-2697 for more information.
