Five Dallas police officers were killed Thursday night when a sniper opened fire on them as they protected a peaceful protest. Nine more people were injured in the attack.
The police department's Facebook site says: "We appreciate all the support that we have received. Thank you from the entire Dallas Police Department."
All U.S. flags were ordered to be lowered to half-staff through Tuesday, July 12, to honor the fallen officers.
Donations are also being sought for the family of Alton Sterling, 37, who was fatally shot on July 5 in Baton Rouge by police officers responding to a call about an armed man. "If you feel helpless, but want to play a small part in easing the burden of #AltonSterling's family, consider donating to this scholarship fund for his 15-year-old son (and his other kids)," says the gofundme.com site: https://www.gofundme.com/2d3eze7g
