Lowered speed limit sought on Route 6

MILFORD — Roadmaster Gary Williams recommends that the speed limit be lowered on one short section of Route 6 in Milford Township.
The speed limit on the major roadway is currently 45 miles per hour and increases to 55 miles per hour after Twin Lakes Road, approximately five miles west of Milford. Williams recently suggested to township supervisors that the limit be reduced one mile in both the east and west lanes. He proposed sending a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) requesting the change. The board agreed.
The reduced speed limit would begin at Twin Lakes Road and continue approximately one mile west, to Owego Turnpike. Sagamore Estates and several new homes and businesses now lie on this portion of the road, Williams noted. He said the speed limit as it stands is a safety hazard.
Segment markers on the road will clarify the section of road for PennDOT in the request.
PennDOT will be responsible for the cost of posting signs indicating the speed limit change, supervisors agreed.
