Milford man shoots son before killing himself
MILFORD — A Milford man killed his son on Sunday before turning his gun on himself.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Feb. 22, the Pennsylvania State Police at Blooming Grove received a report about a domestic dispute and shooting at a residence located at 124 Green Acres Lane in Milford, according to the police report. Joseph Matrongolo, 82, and his son, Joseph M. Matrongolo, 40, got into a verbal argument, which escalated in the driveway of the residence, according to police.
The elder Matrongolo went inside the residence to retrieve a handgun. He then fired multiple shots at his son, striking his son's head with one of the shots and killing him. He then shot himself in the head.
Officers from the Eastern Pike Regional Police Department responded to the scene with state police troopers.
The younger Matrongolo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner's Office. His father was taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, where he was later pronounced dead. The Lackawanna County Coroner's Office is investigating.
Members from the Pennsylvania State Police at Blooming Grove Criminal Investigation Unit also responded.
