New scholarship honors Dr. Alborano, longtime DV teacher and graduate

— A scholarship has been created in memory of the late Dr. James A. Alborano, a former teacher at Delaware Valley elementary and middle schools.
The scholarship will be given each year by Hope Evangelical Free Church in Matamoras to college students in financial need.
To qualify, students must have completed at least one year of education beyond high school. Priority will be given to those in financial need and seeking careers in education, preferably Christian education.
The scholarship award of $1,000 will go to one student, or $500 to each of two students. The application deadline is Dec. 10.
Scholarships will be awarded on Jan. 1 during Sunday services at Hope Evangelical, 300 First Street.

About James AlboranoDr. Alborano, a Matamoras resident for most of his life, died on Dec. 22, 2005, at age 58.
He was a 1965 graduate of Delaware Valley High School. He received his bachelor's degree in political and social science in 1969 from East Stroudsburg University and his master's degree in history in 1971 from East Stroudsburg.
In 1973 he received his M.Ed. from Lehigh University in Elementary Education and in 1974 received his Administrative Certification from Lehigh University. In 1991 he received his A.B D degree in Administration Policy and Urban Education from Fordham University.
He was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church and was also the church organist, choir member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was a member of the Friends of the Pike County Library, vice-chair of the Pike County Republican Committee, and a member of the Westfall Republican Committee.
He had also served as Pike County Historian, Westfall Township Historian and Matamoras Borough Historian. He was also a member of the Tri-State Community Chorus and was a former member of the Pike County 4-H Development Fund Board, among other civic contributions.
