Join The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) for a fun day of hands-on badge work. PEEC offers affordable scout programs for Boy and Girl Scouts within a scenic national park service unit.
Bears, Webelos and Boy Scouts will be doing badge work on Saturday, Oct. 22. Bears will work on fur, feathers and ferns. Webelos will work on the Earth Rocks Badge — to complete this badge, Webelos will need to complete pre-requisite six on their own. Boy Scouts will work on the Mammal Study badge. PEEC has merit badge counselors on staff to teach and sign blue cards for Boy Scouts.
Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors are invited to a Girl Scout Badge Festival on Saturday, Nov. 5. Brownies will work on the Senses and Hiker badges. Juniors will focus on the Camper badge — to complete this badge, Juniors will need to complete Step 5 on their own. Cadettes and Seniors will work on the Girl Scout Ranger program, which involves service projects such as trail maintenance or removal of invasive species from habitat areas. The cost for Brownies and Juniors is $25 per scout, and the cost for Cadettes and Seniors is $5 per scout.
Individual scouts or troops can register for these events. Space is limited, and payment is required to reserve a space, as these scouting festivals are very popular. Scouts must be supervised at all times by a parent or troop leader. In addition to our badge fests, PEEC can accommodate scout troops of 12 or more scouts both for retreat-style camping trips or staff-led instruction of outdoor related badges.
PEEC is excited to offer a unique program that both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can work towards, called the Scout Ranger patch. This achievement is attainable through volunteer or service learning in a national park unit.
