— The Jive Bar on Broad Street in Milford has not been cited for violating its license or local code.
Complaints received by the Courier that an old garage was turned into a bar without the necessary permits seem to be unfounded.
Police Chief Jack DaSilva and a Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board representative say there is no problem at all with the establishment. Its license is valid and current for a restaurant serving liquor and includes a Sunday sales permit. No citations are listed.
Milford Architectural Review Board chair Kevin Stroyan said no problems had been brought before the board, to his knowledge.
Milford Mayor Sean Strub clarified the situation.
“I don't believe they built an addition onto the building," said Strub. "The building is already built almost to the lot line on every side, so there is no room for adding anything."
He said a portion of the interior was renovated to create the bar.
"The rear half of the building, to my knowledge, is not finished or in use at this time," Strub said. "The only exterior work I personally am aware of is the replacement of the garage door and entrance doors on the Catharine Street side of the building. I haven't seen their application or any permit issued, so I don't know what was or was not permitted.”
Several calls to Fred Nemac, the borough's code inspections officer, and to the Jive Bar were not returned.
Chief DaSilva said, “There have been a few noise complaints, but nothing apart from that.”
