Results from the 2025 Pike/Wayne Envirothon
Hawley. The 38th annual Pike/Wayne Envirothon took place on April 15; 19 teams and 95 students participated in this day-long environmental science competition.

On Tuesday, April 15, 95 students (nearly double last year’s attendance) and teachers from high schools across Pike and Wayne Counties joined their two county conservation districts for a full day of fun and science education at the 38th Pike/Wayne Envirothon.
An annual competition, Envirothon challenges students with tests in five ecology topics, including Aquatic Ecology, Forestry, Wildlife, Soils and Land Use and a Current Issue topic. This year’s Current Issue topic was “Roots and Resiliency: Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.”
While the competition is only one day, students spend many weeks studying together to prepare to compete for a variety of outdoor-related prizes and the chance to move on to the state-wide Pennsylvania Envirothon.
There was a strong turnout, with 19 teams participating this year representing Delaware Valley High School, Honesdale High School, Wallenpaupack Area High School and Western Wayne High School.
The winning team overall was “The River-lutionaries” from Delaware Valley High School.
They will be moving on to the Pennsylvania Envirothon to represent Pike County at this state-wide event.
Wayne County’s highest scoring team, the “BrINCIHOF Boys” from Western Wayne High School, will also be traveling to the Pennsylvania Envirothon to represent Wayne County.
Many partners work alongside the Pike County Conservation District (PCCD) and Wayne Conservation District (WCD) each year to create a successful event that instills in students a life-long passion for environmental science and introduces them to career paths within the field. Each test and the study packets provided to students prior to the competition are curated by leaders in their fields, and local professionals attend the event to engage with the participating students.
