— Each year, more is known about the benefits of staying physically active. Staying strong and vital during older adulthood, by doing regular strengthening exercises, is essential to preventing frailty.

Experts in exercise science at Tufts University developed Strong Women/Growing Stronger for adults age 40 and older, which is offered through Penn State Extension in Pike County. For 12 weeks beginning Jan. 5, men and women are invited to grow stronger. Regular weight training effects muscle, bone, posture, balance, coordination and mobility in positive ways. Regular weight training also reduces risk of injury from everyday activities.

The cost is $90 for the program. Plan to attend an informational meeting to receive required paperwork from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Penn State Extension, 514 Broad St., Milford.

Call 570-296-3400 for more information and to register for this no-obligation informational meeting. Space is limited.
