What you should know about your wetlands

| 04 May 2022 | 01:41

Pike County, PA— Wetlands are an integral part of the environment in Northeast PA, serving many purposes for the ecosystem. The Pike County Conservation District (PCCD) is presenting Wetlands Are Wonderful, a basic course on the identification of wetland hydrology, hydric soils, and plant identification. This program will provide the average citizen of Pike County with the information that they need to know regarding wetlands on their property. By understanding how wetlands work, landowners can protect the ecosystems in their own back yard. Mike Leggerio, Biologist, US Army Corp of Engineers will be presenting this program along with Ellen Enslin, CPESC, Program Manager from PCCD. The program will begin in a classroom setting, then proceed into the field, exploring a bog via the boardwalk trail.

Wetlands are Wonderful will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Camp Spears, 143 Nichecronk Pd., Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328. Sunscreen, bug spray, and waterproof shoes are all suggested, but there will be no deep-water wading. All in attendance will receive helpful handouts and laminated plant guides. There will also be a raffle for everyone registered to win wetland identification guides.

Registration for this event is free but requested by May 10. To register and for more information, visit the Pike County Conservation District website www.pikeconservation.org or our Facebook (@pikeconservation). For questions, contact Devan George at PCCD, 570-226-8220 or dgeorge@pikpa.org.
