Lutheran preschool now registering
GREELEY – Registrations for the 2007-2008 school year are currently being accepted at St. Luke Lutheran Church Preschool, located on Route 590 in Greeley, in the St. Luke Center Building. Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Children must be 3, 4 or 5 years old by Aug. 31. This program is open to boys and girls from the Greeley area as well as the surrounding communities, regardless of Church affiliation. The cost to register is kept as low as possible in order to provide preschool education to as many students as possible. A lesser fee is charged for a second child from the same family. During the year, students participate in arts, crafts and music, and learn colors, numbers, shapes and the alphabet. Socialization skills are also exercised. Various field trips throughout the year are planned, and visits from the local fire company and ambulance service are scheduled. St. Luke Preschool was established in 1987. The present school building was originally owned by the Wallenpaupack Area School District. St. Luke Church Council, seeing the need in Greeley for a preschool in order to prepare students for Kindergarten, decided to answer that need by establishing the St. Luke Preschool as a non-profit educational agency of the church. In operation ever since, St. Luke Preschool is staffed by two teachers, Mary-Ellen Impastato, Director, and Mary Bajda. In addition, volunteers donate their time and talents in music and art instruction. The Preschool is located next to the Lackawaxen Branch of the Pike County Library and this allows the classes to participate in a story hour once a week.
