Magazine rates DV one of the top US high schools

WESTFALL A new data study prepared for Newsweek Magazine and released on Monday named Delaware Valley among the top six percent of the nation’s high schools. According to Newsweek, the study names about 1,600 of the best public and private schools, based on “how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced-placement college-level courses and tests.” DV was one of 29 Pennsylvania schools chosen and ranked 1,531 overall. This was the district’s first selection to the list. DV hosted a Tuesday media gathering to announce its selection. “We’re very, very proud of the work we’ve done and the progress we’ve made over many years,” said Superintendent, Dr. Candis Finan. She credited her husband, now retired Director of Secondary Education at DV, Tom Finan, who in 1985 installed a rigorous curriculum. “We’ve made continuous progress and this is the culmination of what we’ve been able to do.” Board of education President, Sue Casey said the selection “affirms all the hard work that the administrators, staff and board members have put into making this recognition possible.” “Teamwork is the essential element to success. This is so true especially in the field of education. Students, parents, educators, etc., all working with enthusiasm’ have combined to achieve competitive greatness’”, said board member Jack Fisher.. View the entire study at www.newsweek.com/.
