Making the way green in Milford

Milford — Dedicated last Saturday, the Pinchot Greenway was described as a “historic and momentous occasion” by project coordinator Bill Kiger. The greenway connects the National Park Service’s Milford Beach and the US Forest Service’s Grey Towers through a pedestrian and bike trail, marked by small green signs along the way. About two dozen people were present for the morning dedication. Kiger said the greenway serves the long-term tourism interest in Pike County and emphasizes three core ideas of the Pinchot legacy: conservation, education and utilization. Peter Pinchot of the Pinchot Institute said the greenway links Milford Borough with the public lands that exist on either side of it and serves as a bridge between the town and nature. Bill Karotko, Deputy Superintendent of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, explained the ultimate vision is to be able to connect Milford and the Delaware Water Gap by similar greenways and trails. Construction of the McDade Trail, which can be accessed through Milford Beach, is ongoing. Pike County Commissioner Karl Wagner said the greenway “is something that generations to come will enjoy.”
