Man charged with killing his wife

MATAMORAS State police charged William H. Dilger, 72, with murder in the Wednesday afternoon shooting death of his wife, Barbara Ann Dilger, 69. According to the criminal complaint, Dilger told police he shot his wife with a hunting rifle as she was laying on her bed. He told them his wife had been ill, could not eat and that medicine prescribed for did not seem to help. Neighbors called police to the Avenue P home after hearing the shot at 1:30 p.m. Dilger was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jay Rose and ordered held at the Pike County Jail without bail. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Deborah Fischer is scheduled for next week.
