Milford Cub Scouts: ready - set - race

MILFORD — It was Pinewood Derby time on March 1, as Cub Scouts of Pack #71 and their siblings came to the Fellowhip Hall at the Presbyterian Church, excitedly carrying their freshly painted, sleek masterpieces. The scouts had been working on their cars, with their families, for weeks. They drew plans, carved the cars out of blocks of wood, painted them, and added wheels and weights. Making a Pinewood derby car is no easy task. Strict racing specifications for length, width, and weight of the car must be met. On the big day, the scouts stood in line watching nervously as their cars were carefully inspected to race. With some minor, last minute adjustments, all cars passed inspection. After an afternoon of racing, all were winners. Not only did the scouts spend quality time with their families working on their cars, but they spent an afternoon watching their cars compete against others. Many adults can recall their Pinewood Derby Days and some may still even have their Pinewood Derby cars from days gone by. Come join the fun.
