Milford man charged in N.J. thefts

    Vernon, N.J. — New Jersey police earlier this month arrested a Pike County man following a theft investigation at a Vernon resort. On March 1, Mountain Creek Ski Resort requested assistance from the Vernon Township Police Department regarding an ongoing pattern of thefts from their money counting office. The investigation had begun at the end of January and continued some six weeks, It entailed interviews of multiple employees at the resort. On March 7, the Vernon Detective bureau arrested Steven M. Swinton, 20, of Milford. Swinton was able to enter the secured money counting office due to his association with one of the money counting office employees. He allegedly removed approximately $1,700 cash from overnight deposit bags and from a safe inside the room. Swinton was processed and released on his own recognizance.
