Musicians attend honors band festival

WESTFALL - In February, five Delaware Valley High School Band members traveled with Band Director, Lance Rauh, to Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, to represent Delaware Valley in the 15th annual Susquehanna University Honors Band Festival. The group that represented Delaware Valley included Senior Flute player, Jackie Massey; Junior Euphonium player, Elisha Moretz; Junior Percussionist, Keith Novak; Junior Bassoon player, Melaad Zareaie; and Sophomore Trumpet player, Chad Feakins. These five Band students were among 150 students from nearly seventy schools spanning nine states to participate in the concert band invitational. Under the direction of Dr. Eric Hinton, Director of Bands at Susquehanna University, and Mr. Don Owens, Professor Emeritus from Northwestern University, the students had the opportunity to see what it is like to major in music on a college campus in addition to performing college level literature. The festival consisted of three days of intensive rehearsals, culminating a “grand finale” type performance Sunday afternoon.
