No new school taxes at DV this year
WESTFALL Delaware Valley officials announced last week that there will be no new school taxes this year. School Board President Bob Goldsack said the board agreed on the action given a reduction of staff and an increase of state funds. The board also reduced the budget reserve. “In past they’ve had too much in reserve and they’ve never used it to reduce taxes. We still have one, but not as much,” he said. Some areas are based on estimates of incoming property taxes, state and federal money, he said. “It’s like baseball. You have to guess what’s coming. We’ve got a pretty good average... If there ever was a time the taxpayer needed relief, it’s now” he said. In other business, the district is still awaiting concept drawings for a rehabilitation of the Delaware Valley Elementary School. Goldsack said the concept includes 24 new classrooms on two levels in the current gym space, and a new science lab and gym. Regarding the district’s prescription drug problems, there have been no further expulsions since the 20 reported earlier this month, Goldsack said.
