Nursing scholarships awarded

HONESDALE n These five young women, pictured with members of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, are smiling for a good reason. They’ve chosen to pursue one of the most respected professions in the U.S.n nursing n and they’re getting paid to do it. All local high school seniors, they were picked by the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to receive nursing scholarships for college. This year over $10,000 in Scholarship money was awarded to qualified seniors. This year, Heidi Sadak of Honesdale High School received $5,283 from the Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer Fund towards her nursing education at Bloomsburg University. Four students were awarded $1,000 each from the Victoria T. Robinson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Alyssa Santos of Delaware Valley High will choose between Marywood or Wilkes Universities; Christine Reesey of Wallenpaupack will attend College Misericordia; Katelyn Brothwell from Forest City Regional begins Drexel University in the fall and Deborah Gillow of Western Wayne will attend Bob Jones University. For the eighth straight year, nurses topped The Gallup Poll’s annual ranking of the most ethical professions in America. More than 84% of respondents said nurses have “very high” or “high” ethical standards, the second-highest rating the poll has ever recorded.
