Old Owego Turnpike becoming one-way

Pike County is awaiting a County Court decision on its petition to turn the westerly portion of the Old Owego Turnpike into a one-way street. The county, which owns the road, is said to be claiming safety issues as a reason for the change. Milford Township Supervisor Don Quick testified against the action at the hearing last week and noted that the county petition cited only one accident in its petition. “If all one-way roads were based on a single accident, all the roads in the state would be one-way,” Quick said. If the court approves , two-way traffic would only extend to the lower gatehouse at Grey Towers. Downhill traffic from US Route 6 would be prohibited Quick said. Photo by David Hulse.
