Open house planned to present traffic safety study recommendations
BUSHKILL The National Park service will hold an open house on Tuesday, Nov. 18, to present the results and recommendations of a pilot traffic safety study conducted in Delaware Gap National Recreation Area. The open house will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bushkill Meeting Center on US Route 209 in Bushkill. The traffic safety study, sponsored jointly by the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration, began earlier this year. It was initiated to analyze road safety in the national recreation area park and to identify potential solutions to reduce traffic accidents. A consulting firm, CH2M HILL, has been compiling accident and traffic volume data from park records as well as neighboring jurisdictions. The National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration have also undertaken an extensive Alternative Transportation Feasibility Study to evaluate transportation alternatives to improve public access to and within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. An open house was held on Sept. 25 to solicit input from the public. A second open house is now scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9 to update the public on the status of the project to date. A news release with additional information will be forthcoming. For additional information about the Traffic Safety Study and the Alternative Transportation Feasibility Study, please contact Management Assistant Debbie O’Leary at 570-426-2430.
