Out of the mouths of babes

MILFORD Often, grownups learn valuable lessons from children, and Sabrina Schlenker is one kid who can teach a lot. Sabrina has loved animals all her life, so much that on her birthday, in lieu of gifts, she told her family and friends that she wanted money to buy emergency food supplies for the Pike County Animal Shelter, in Shohola. It was Sabrina’s own idea to donate her birthday money to buy supplies for sheltered animals. Sabrina said, “I asked my mom, dad and friends to donate, so I could buy supplies, load up the car, and deliver them to the shelter. I gave treats to the dogs there, too.” Sabrina aspires to be a dog trainer or jockey coach when she is an adult. Presently, she has two frisky dogs of her own, and she also rides horses for sport. In addition to being charitable with animals, Sabrina donates her hair to Locks of Love, which makes hairpieces for financially disadvantaged children suffering from cancer. “I let my hair grow long, then I get it cut.” Only ten years old, Sabrina sees the needs in the world and finds her own way of responding via donations. Truly, a valuable lesson for all.
