Pedometers track marathon progress

More than 40 students are participating in the Delaware Valley Middle School Principal’s Mini-Marathon in an effort to encourage the students to exercise. Middle School Principal Pete Ioppolo, who developed the mini-marathon is pictured with with Mary Stanley, program coordinator of the Pike County Teen Alcohol Drug & Resource Center. Ioppolo holds one of the pedometers donated by the Pike County Health Fund, which students and staff participating in the mini-marathon will use to track their mileage. Research shows daily exercise among youngsters and teenagers reduces the incidence of them experimenting with cigarette smoking or drug use. Created by the Pike County Health Fund, the Teen Alcohol Drug and Resource Center provides services to parents and adolescents trying to cope with substance abuse.
