Peifer to speak at awards banquet

BEACH LAKE - Pennsylvania State Rep. Mike Peifer will serve as keynote speaker at the Upper Delaware Council’s (UDC) 19th Annual Awards Banquet to be held on Sunday, Apr. 29, at Central House Family Resort in Beach Lake. Tickets are available for $23. Reservations are required by Apr. 20. The program in the Carriage House room will start with a 3 p.m. hors d’oeuvres reception, followed by a buffet dinner featuring prime rib, baked ham, and shrimp scampi at 4 p.m., the keynote address by Rep. Peifer was elected to his first term as representative for Pennsylvania’s 139th Legislative District last November. The life-long Greentown resident is a 1986 graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School who earned a four-year baseball scholarship and an Accounting degree from Rider College in Lawrenceville, NJ. Peifer qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in 1991 and worked as a senior tax consultant for Price Waterhouse LLP before returning to Greentown in 1995 to open his own accounting and tax firm, Michael T. Peifer CPA. Peifer’s family also operates the Greentown Agway franchise. Prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Peifer was elected as Pike County Treasurer in Nov. 1999, where he was re-elected and served until his election to the House. He is a past-president of Pike County United Way; treasurer of the Pike County Republican Committee, Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, and the New Greentown Cemetery Association; board member of the Devereux Pocono Center; and a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Public Accountants, National Rifle Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Promised Land Sportsmen, and the Cold Hill Hunting Club of Greentown. Peifer is married to the former Jen Teeter of Hawley, a teacher at Wallenpaupack Area High School. The couple has three children, Corine, Wyatt and Elijah.
