Please, no butts in borough parks
MILFORD Milford Borough officials are tired of seeing cigarette butts littering Memorial Park but they are not certain how to go about stopping it. Earlier this month, they considered a smoking prohibition ordinance. Councilman Ed Loeschorn suggested a designated smoking area for the teenagers, whom he blamed for the littering problem. “It came up because the butts are all over the place.” Loeschorn said. Councilman James Price suggested a $75 fine for anyone tossing a cigarette butt. Borough President Matt Osterberg was concerned about how a ban or fines could be enforced without adding more duties for borough police. Given the enforcement problem, the council decided to post signs asking park users not to smoke and to provide several receptacles for cigarette butts
