NEWTON, N.J. Pulmonary Medical Associates, LLP opened its Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic two years ago in conjunction with Meridian healthcare group. It became an essential addition to the practice. Just two months ago, the decision was made to expand the services offered at the Rehab Clinic. Patients treated at the Pulmonary Rehab Clinic do not have to be a patient of Pulmonary Medical Associates. However, during the period of their treatment, they will be under the care of one of the three pulmonary physicians, Daya Nadarajah, MD; Rakesh K. Garg, MD, Mina Mohammadi, MD. All are Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Disease. Doctors Nadarajah and Garg are Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine. The capability to react to all medical emergencies is available to patients while they are engaged in treatment. It occurs when there is a severe lack of a protein in the blood called ALPHA-1 Antitrypsin (AAT) that is mainly produced by the liver. The main function of AAT is to protect the lungs from inflammation caused by infection and inhaled irritants.
