Raarup appointed to council

MILFORD - Replacing one of their members was a bit awkward for the borough council Monday night. Josephine Mosher was recommended by departing member Carlo Gamboni, but the council wanted Ed Raarup, who also applied. Problem was, Raarup chairs the planning commission, a difficult position to fill. And, if no one was appointed to the council, a vacancy committee takes over the choosing. They didn’t want that, either. They wound up announcing a planning vacancy after Raarup’s confirmation. Raarup will serve through next year, and must run in the spring primary to retain the seat. In other business, the council approved the borough’s $947,172 expenditures budget for 2007. The budget calls for a $41,000 spending increase over the current year, but maintains the 34 mill tax levy, without change. They also directed code enforcement officer Duane Kuhn to look into the nature of David Greenbaum’s, Seventh Street pottery studio. Members said the business, which was permitted as a home occupation and profiled in last week’s Courier, now appears to have become a commercial business site.
