Rainbow Youth forms in Milford
Support group for sexual minority youth MILFORD A new Rainbow Youth group recently held their first meeting in Milford. The kick off meeting provided an opportunity for several youths to meet current volunteers. Rainbow Youth was formed six years ago in the Stroudsburg area. It was sparked when a youth was at a very bad low in his life and was having trouble coping with his sexuality. Skip Scheetz came to his rescue and in doing so realized the need to have an organization to help youth with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (GLBTQ) issues. Since then, Rainbow Youth has grown into a respected and recognized organization whose mission is to enhance the self-esteem of sexual minority youth, and to increase the public’s awareness of the issues they face. They provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental place for these young people (14 to 22) to obtain support and understanding, and a place where they can just be themselves and have fun. Any youth interested in joining or adults wanting to volunteer should visit the Web site www.rainbowyouth.net, e-mail them at rainbowyouth@hotmail.com, or call its hotline at 570-421-2277. Due to our extreme need of confidentiality, they can not disclose the location of the meetings which meet twice monthly on Thursday evenings. So get in touch with them and one of their board members will be glad to give you further information on their organization.
