Rangers recover body from Dingmans Creek
BUSHKILL n The National Park Service has identified the a body found in the park last week as that of Rosemary Shortino, 40, of Middle Smithfield Township, in Monroe County. Rangers and technical rescue specialists at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area recovered Shortino from Dingmans Creek on the morning of July 5, upstream from Dingmans Falls. National Park Service, New Jersey State Forest, and New Jersey State Park employees were involved in the recovery effort. Pike County received the initial report from two fishermen who spotted a body submerged in the water. An autopsy was performed on Friday, July 6 and the cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt trauma to the sternum and pelvis. Results of toxicology and blood alcohol tests are still pending. The NPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, but a spokeswoman said the death is now being viewed as accidental.
