WWII Army veteran Gene Goldner speaks as Marine veterans look on at the Sunday memorial service honoring those died during the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl harbor. Ceremonies were held at the memorial park on Broad Street. Veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam, dressed in their military attire, were there to honor those who died. “It’s an important day to remember. It was the beginning of many sacrifices that still go on today. We can’t forget,” said Korean war veteran Jim Slevin. Marine veteran and bugler Mitch Winkeleer was on hand to play Taps. “I’m hurtin’ today. It’s an American day which does live in infamy,” said Winkeleer. This weekend, Dec. 13-14 and next weekend, Dec. 20-21, Marine Veterans are going to have a Toys For Pike County Kids collection drive at the Kmart and WalMart stores in Westfall.
