MILFORD - If you’re tired of washing those long tresses this winter or just up for doing something really nice, Tina Rodriguez has a plan for you. On Saturday, Feb. 10, Rodriguez’ Christian Salon in Milford will be donating free hair cuts and styling to donors for Locks of Love. Locks of Love, a not-for-profit group, provides free or pro-rated cost, custom fitted hair pieces to children who have lost their own hair. Some 2,000 children have been recipients since the group began in 1997. Rodriguez said one of her regular clients wanted to bring someone to donate her hair that day, “and I thought, let me do an event and try to encourage others.” In addition to the free cuts and styling, Rodriguez will also award “a day of beauty” to the donor of the longest ponytail. The day could include highlighting, manicure and pedicure. She describes it as a little pampering. A stylist with 17 years of experience, Rodriguez said she has always had customers who donated over the years, but she wanted to make the process easier. “In many salons, customers will pay for their cut and styling and then be responsible for packing the shipping the hair,” she said. Rodriguez has registered Christian Salon as a Locks of Love participating salon, which in her case, means she also takes care of the paperwork and shipping for donors. Before and after photos will be taken and provided to Locks of Love for their website. Rodriguez knows the program is important from personal experience. “One of my customers was the uncle of a recipient of a Locks of Love hairpiece. ‘She was so happy. It made it better for her’ he told me.” Christian Salon is located at 502 West Harford Street, opposite the Grand Union. Call 570 -296-2816.
