WESTFALL - Total college aid awarded to DV/Pike County residents totaled $13.2 million dollars for the 2006 - 2007 school year, according to Jay Tucker, who chairs the Guidance Department and coordinates financial aid in the Delaware Valley School District. Tucker attributed the growth in aid to the increase in educating the senior parents and students in the types of aid and scholarships available to our students. Delaware Valley High School recently held a financial aid night for the parents of seniors. Over 350 parents attended. The breakdown of aid awarded to the Delaware Valley “Class of 2006” shows private scholarships to be $2,634,451. DV seniors also turned down over $1.8 million in private scholarships due to the fact that many students were offered scholarships from more than one college and could only accept private aid from the college they chose to attend. The State of Pennsylvania only reports federal and state aid by county but, Delaware Valley High School students comprise about 75% to 80% of all high school seniors in Pike County, so the vast majority of Pike County aid was received by DV students. These figures show state grants to Pike County students at $1,626,232, PELL grants at $2,037,782, STAFFORD loans at $4,993,072, and PLUS loans at $1,949,804, for a total of $10,546,890 million dollars in state and federal aid. When private scholarships are included the total increases to $13.2 million dollars in aid to DV/Pike County students.
