Scout Olympics this weekend
MATAMORAS Just as athletes from all over ancient Greece would meet, some 300 Boy Scouts, Venturers, Cub Scouts and their leaders will join together in various events, overnight camping and partake in food and fellowship. On the weekend of Oct. 12 to 14, they will meet at Mount Olympus and in the great City-States of Ancient Greece or, as we mortals call it, Airport Park in Matamoras. The Hudson Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America and the local Delaware River District are hosting this exciting event. The scouts will be coming from Pike, Orange, Sullivan and other nearby Counties to gather and participate in the Olympic-themed activities. For Venturers and Boy Scouts this is the annual Fall Camp-o-ree with check-in beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, and check out by 10 a.m. on Sunday. Cub Scouts have their own age-appropriate program on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 AM to 4 p.m. Boys in grades 1 through 5 are welcome to come and learn about scouting. Registration and the day-long program will be open to children wanting to join scouts. All of the events are on-going throughout the day, so Cub Scouts can join in at anytime between 10 and 4 o’clock. Lunch will be provided for the Cubs, along with a Boy Scout patch and other goodies for their Olympic, award-winning participation. Registration is only $10 for the weekend for Boy Scouts and Venturers, as well as for the Cub Scout Olympics on Saturday. Call 570-296-2227 or e-mail Unit.Commissioner@yahoo.com.
