Scout preparations for the derby

Milford Cub Scouts Pack #71, including their Cubmaster and Den Leader, recently visited Bristol Glen, a continuing care retirement community in Newton, N.J. to seek some advice from Bill Robinson and Charles Windt. Robinson and Windt, residents at the community, gave them some valuable advice regarding car design, assisted them in drawing some awesome plans, and made the first few cuts in the age-old pine block of wood. The men gave them a tour of their woodshop, showing the scouts different tools and pieces of equipment. The visit ended with freshly baked cookies and ice cream from the famous Bristol Glen ice cream machine. That left the scouts to finish and detail their own cars in order to be ready for last weekend’s Pine Wood Derby race on at the Milford Presbyterian Church. As the residents at Bristol Glen are creating their own Pine Wood Derby cars, the Milford Cub Scouts, joined by a local Sussex County Cub Scout Pack, plan to return to the continuing care retirement community for a race-off with the residents at the “Bristol Speedway” on March 15. If you would like information regarding the Milford Cub Scouts, please call Liz Nathan, Committee Chairperson at 570-409-8351. Scouting skills last a lifetime!
