Colletta hurt as DV wins

SCRANTON n Delaware Valley won on the road but lost its All-State running back candidate, Frankie Colletta for the season on Sunday. Undefeated DV (6-0, 3-0 Lackawanna League) went on to win 21-12. The game with the West Scranton West Invaders had been postponed due to rainy weather. Less than three minutes into the first quarter at Scranton Memorial Stadium, Colletta went down with an ankle injury following a five-yard gain on an off-tackle play. Carried from the field, the tailback was taken to Scranton’s Community Medical Center where x-rays determined his ankle was broken. Taking Colletta’s place was Kenny Domzalski. Shortly after the injury and following some words of encouragement from Colletta’s parents, the team scored their first touchdown, which was quickly followed by a field goal. DV struggled throughout, not only as a result of the injury suffered by their star player, but also due to the many penalties the Warriors incurred. Quarterback, Richie Hearon, who received the game ball that night, scored two touchdowns. A third was scored by Domzalski, who gained 170 yards on the game. The Warriors will next play the Honesdale Hornets, their opponents for the Oct. 14 homecoming weekend game at Warrior Stadium.
