You can’t count on things working out as you would expect or as you would like. The world of sports is no different. Case in point are some unlikely results. The NY Giants getting into the playoffs in 2008 was a wild card. Then they beat the Cowboys in Dallas, then the Packers in Green Bay, then the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl. Who would have thought? Here are some more. The White Sox and Red Sox both finally winning the world series, and how about the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup? Oh and how about baseball this year. All the best teams getting knocked off in the early rounds except Houston. The Dodgers, the Mets, the Yankees and the Braves all gone.

Why do I bring this up? Well, the mighty Delaware Valley Warriors football team played the 2-7 Abington Heights team this past Friday and guess what? The lowly Abington team didn’t just beat DV, they stomped all over them. The score was 38-13 and it wasn’t that close. DV didn’t stand a chance. In fact, one touch down came as a result of an interception or else it would have been 38-7.

DV looked absolutely flat all game. Were they looking ahead to next week’s playoff game? I doubt that because if they had beaten Abington then that playoff game would have been a home game. Was everyone sick? I just don’t know, but losing this game was a shocker. I do know this that if they play like this next week, then the season will be over. Hopefully this is a wake up game and they come out with fire in their guts next week.

So here it is. DV was totally outplayed from start to finish. The offensive front line was as porous as a colander. Abington got through at will. Abington also drove all over DV with both their run game and their passing game.

Delaware Valley looked confused, demoralized and defeated. Abington looked like a super high school football team. Was DV that bad on that night? Was Abington that good on that night? Was it a combination of the two. We will find out next week when DV travels to Pittston for the playoffs.

Here are the few highlights. J. Ramirez got 50+ recieving yards. Paulie Weinrich got 102 rushing yards, J. Kalitsnik piled up tackles, as usual, and Ryder Machado got his usual interceptions.

That’s it. Now we have to wait until next week to see if there will be anymore football this year or if we should turn our attentions to basketball right away.

Let’s hope for the best.
