Delaware Valley Warriors meet West Scranton Invaders in 'Court Battle'

MILFORD — West Scranton High School defeated Delaware Valley High School in boys varsity basketball on Saturday, Jan. 28.
The final score was 49-46.
The Delaware Valley Warriors got off to a slow start and trailed the West Scranton Invaders throughout the contest. West Scranton led Delaware Valley 29-20 at 6:15 in the third period.
But from that point on Delaware Valley mounted a furious comeback. Intensified defensive play and a series of three-pointers, hitting nothing but net, allowed Delaware Valley to pull within striking distance of pulling off an improbable win.
Delaware Valley managed to creep up on West Scranton and tighten the score 46-40 at 1:28 in the fourth period. Both teams got into foul trouble as regulation time wound down. Missed free throws hurt Delaware Valley and West Scranton. But the final buzzer helped the West Scranton Invaders hold off the Delaware Valley Warriors surge and walk away winners.
Trevor Smith led Delaware Valley in scoring, contributing 14 points. Blake Gearhart scored 12 points for Delaware Valley. Tyler Smith contributed nine points for Delaware Valley. Shane Acoveno scored seven points. Dylan Kelly and Tyler Magee contributed two points.
Matt Williams led West Scranton in scoring by contributing 15 points. Cole Stetzar and Shaun Fanning scored 11 points apiece for West Scranton. Blake Carlton and Austin Lipowitch each scored six points for West Scranton.
The game took place at Delaware Valley High School.
