Delaware Valley wrestlers proved themselves on the mat

MILFORD — At the end of the season, after facing off every challenge with focus and tenacity, Delaware Valley High School's wrestling team feels a well-earned sense of pride. It's the pride that goes with knowing that you pushed yourself to the limit against some of the toughest high school wrestlers to be found anywhere in the country.
The Warriors had an overall record of 13-7, and they were 8-2 in the District. Head coach Lou DeLauro recalls one match in particular which stands out as most memorable from this past winter.
“The most impressive match this season was against Hazelton High School at the District Duals,” he said. “It was the third place match, which we won 33-32. It was most impressive because all 14 wrestlers did their jobs and we pulled out a win against a team that was expected to beat us.”
DeLauro was also impressed by the constant improvements made by the student-athletes on the roster. He mentioned a few wrestlers that made some the most positive progression throughout the season.
“Nathan Harlin and Mike McKinney, both wrestlers being sophomores who continued to improve and worked hard from the start of the season,” DeLauro said. “They improved over time and I look forward to seeing how they improve over the next two seasons.”
He said McKinney was one of the team leaders this winter.
“This past season, McKinney, Shawn Jones, Tyler Moraski and RJ Korfmann emerged as leaders,” he said. “They were great motivators for a very young team and didn’t have a problem being vocal when needed to address situations. They acted as leaders on and off the mat.”
The future does indeed look bright for the team.
“I am very optimistic about the future due to the continued growth seen on and off the mat this season,” DeLauro said. “My optimism is increased by the work ethic and the fact that a lot of wrestlers are continuing to come to workouts and attend tournaments. Next season’s success depends on how the team continues to work and improve with our off-season practice and match schedule.”
